It may be surprising to learn that your heartburn isn't always all about the food you eat. Part of the problem could also be HOW you eat your food.
We're going to discuss that in just a moment. It has to be recognized that there are some foods that tend to give people heartburn more than others. The list below contains the most common 'problem foods' for heartburn sufferers:
*Acid fruit or juice
*high fat foods (especially deep fried)
*coffee and tea
*onions
*peppermint
*chocolate
*foods with a lot of spice
If you see your favorite food in that list and are starting to panic becuase you thinnk you can't survive with out it... don't panic quite yet because you may not have to.You just need to be disciplined for a little while to figure out what exactly is causing you problems.
The best way to do this is with a food log. All you need is a small notepad of some sort to carry with you everywhere you go so that you record everything that you eat, as well as the time you eat it. You'll want to write down whenever you start to feel the onset of heartburn, too.
In no more than a few weeks you should be able to recognize a pattern between what you eat and your heartburn. By doing this, you won't unnecessarily eliminate foods that you love, but only the ones that are ACTUALLY causing the problem for you.
As mentioned above, HOW you eat also plays a role. You need to take the time to totally chew your food before you swallow it. The more work you do with your mouth, the less work you will have to do with your stomach, which means you wonn't have to produce so much acid down there to handle the food.
Another way to redue the work your stomach needs to do is to eat more frequent (but smaller) meals. The stomach would rather deal with a bit of food at a time than a sudden avalanche of solid chunks of barely chewed food every once in a while.
Work with your stomach, and it will be more likely to work with you.
Something else to keep in mind about using the techniques mentioned above is that they are the same ones used by many to successfully lose weight. Why not get an added bonus of losing weight at the same time you learn how to get rid of heartburn? Nice!
